A flood alert has been issued for the Lukely Brook in Newport tonight (Saturday) as close to half a months rain has fallen in just 1 day.
River levels are reported to be high and continue to rise following 25mm of rainfall in the past 6 hours. This has prompted the Environment Agency to recommend that residents nearest the river take action to protect their property.
All grill structures are currently clear and free of debris but the river is still expected to be bankfull in most locations.
Most of the rain has now cleared the area so water levels will remain high for the next couple of hours before they begin to fall.
Operational contractors are out in the Newport area making sure the river is kept free of blockages. The Environment Agency say they will continue to monitor levels in the river.
