UPDATED: The Cowes Floating Bridge has run aground this afternoon (Friday), forcing the service to be suspended for the second time this week.
Just 2 days after it last run aground, the brand new multi-million vessel is once again high and dry on the East Cowes side of the River Medina.
Floating Bridge No.6 isn’t expected to refloat until around 19:30.
On Wednesday a spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council said
“While the crews continue to get used to the dimensions of the new bridge, and when tides turn rapidly, this is a known and normal operational risk”.
A passenger launch is being arranged, but vehicles must divert via Newport and the associated one-way system in place for the Isle of Wight Festival.
UPDATE – The floating bridge has now re-floated and a normal operation has resumed.
UPDATE SATURDAY @ 17:30 – The Cowes Floating Bridge has been suspended once again as a ‘precautionary measure’.
The Isle of Wight Council say the service has been stopped due to the speed of the changing of the tide.
It is unknown when the service will be resumed.
UPDATE @ 19:20 – The floating bridge has now returned to service.
