Flares have been fired into the night sky off Ryde tonight (Thursday) as HM Coastguard launches a search over concerns for an individual.
Cowes RNLI lifeboat is currently conducting a search in the area of Ryde Pier and has set off 2 parachute flares to illuminate the search area.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has a paramedic crew and an operational commander on scene.
Police are also present, with Coastguard Rescue Teams en-route.
UPDATE @ 20:52 – The search has been called off with a successful conclusion.
2 males have emerged from the darkness – from the direction of the sea – and are now with paramedics.
Cowes Lifeboat, Coastguard Rescue Teams and Police have all stood down.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

It’s that time of year where Christians do their best to make fathers blocked from seeing their children feel worthless. It’s ugly what what happens to men when a marriage ends. Even when it’s the woman that has been unfaithful and abusive they still get to keep the kids and they then use the kids to cause more pain to their X.
Were Ryde Inshore Rescue not available? Surely that is their patch, rather than dragging a lifeboat round from Cowes?
