Firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance in Shanklin this evening (Saturday).
1 appliance and a retained crew from Shanklin Fire Station were mobilised to Blythe Way after reports were received about a fire in the open just after 19:35.
It is understood that firefighters have gained access to a small paddock to extinguish the small fire.
UPDATE – Youths have been blamed for the incident, with a local resident capturing the teens on camera ahead of the arrival of firefighters.
It’s claimed that there are a group of youngsters in the Shanklin area who are regularly creating small fires in the open.

Probably the local drunks from the mainland that have setup camp, perhaps they got fedup with Shanklin Station..
Must have had a practise before moving on to the Ocean later
What a bloody waist of time for the firefighters, who ever called them needs to get a life, there only kids for f sake, was you young once? (Actually?I doubt it!)
guess they had a little trip to sandown over the weekend then. coincidence i think not
What a load of bs,how the hell can you make some such of an assumption, little kids having a little camp fire, to blatant corporate criminal greed,!!!!
