UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called to an alarm activation at Sevenacres mental health unit on the site of St Mary’s Hospital in Newport this afternoon (Friday).
2 appliances – 1 from Newport and 1 from Ryde – are currently on scene off Dodnor Lane.
They were alerted to the situation at around 13:45.
The building has been evacuated whilst investigations are carried out.
UPDATE @ 14:37 – It has been confirmed that a potential fire in the roof space prompted the response, however following investigations no signs of fire have been identified.
It’s thought dust in a smoke detector is to blame.
Engineers have been called to the scene.
