A fire crew from Sandown has been mobilised to reports of a fire in the open in Brading tonight (Sunday).
1 fire appliance was sent to the scene off Morton Old Road after smoke was spotted at around 21:10.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that the fire – a bonfire on private land – is under control.
This is at least the 2nd time that crews from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service have been called out to a bonfire today, after 1 spread to a field in Porchfield earlier this afternoon.
If you see a fire in the countryside, contact the fire service immediately on 999. Do not attempt to tackle fires that cannot be put out with a bucket of water.
Remember, do not discard cigarettes or other smoking materials in the countryside. It is also important to clear away bottles, glasses and any broken glass to avoid them magnifying the sun and starting a fire.
Always take extra care if using a barbecue and only light fires or BBQs in designated areas. Never leave a campfire or BBQ unattended and extinguish them properly after you have finished using them.

Just await the bored teenagers when the attempt to educate Pork has a break for the Summer hols.
This is the good times.
As electric cycles become available on the second hand or chawed market, then lazy but bored louts, with no effort will use such to create havoc in the near future in fields, woods and scrub land off of any cycle path. Then causing damage, arson, and theft away from their breeding hutches and spreading misery into currently quite, assumed safe areas.
Oh you Nazi.
All bonfires should be banned or restricted during the summer months. If it’s only garden waste then it can be composted.
Unfortunately you are right. I say “unfortunately” because you don’t need a lot of common sense to realise that you don’t light a bonfire in hot, dry weather.
Not even if you have taken the necessary precautions of using an incinerator bin and having a hosepipe ready – and how many bother to do that at any time.
Please can we ban the use of BBQs on public land by law. I don’t understand why this is allowed. Apart from the fire risk, who wants to sit next to a beach BBQ, or clear up the mess they inevitably leave.
