Firefighters from 4 fire stations in Hampshire were called to tackle a fire at Red Funnel’s Southampton ferry terminal overnight.
Crews from Hightown, Redbridge and St Mary’s were mobilised to the vehicle ferry terminal at 02:11 this morning (Friday).
4 breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet were used to contain and extinguish the fire, which broke out on the ground floor close to where passengers board the ferry.
Positive pressure ventilation was then used to rid smoke from the building.
At the height of the incident, a total of 3 pumping appliances, an Aerial Ladder Platform, a duty officer and the Command Support Unit from Eastleigh were in attendance.
Crews stood down from the incident by 03:30.
UPDATE @ 10:28 – A spokesperson for Red Funnel said:
“In the early hours of this morning Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service extinguished a contained fire within an office at the vehicle ferry terminal in Southampton.
“No one was injured and we do not anticipate any resulting disruption to our services.
“We are continuing to fully support Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service as they evaluate the scene.”

Meanwhile, in the sleepy backwater of Ashey, our entire fire crew fail to put out ONE barn with some straw on fire.
Will Hay could be re-filmed here
Don’t know how they managed without your expert advice, pratt
They HAVEN’T managed, THAT is the issue here
Price hike on way then to pay for it
I bet they will send the Fire Brigade a bill, plus extra for parking with an excess charge for time of attendance.
Wow, they really tuning up the heat for a fixed link. Seems cancelling ferries all the time and massive fair hikes not enough. They now burning down their own buildings. Government need to step in before this lot force a fixed link on us, something we don’t want. Not being left with many options.
They had to use extra long hoses as they were told they had park in lane 34
Red funnel are popular ,,,NOT
Dear island echo, could you explain when reporting our wonderful emergency service, you report every detail regarding equipment used and numbers of who attended??.
Surely it would be a more comfortable read if you report the basics, it just seems very long winded reporting before we get to the real nitty-gritty of the article.
I hope my comments haven’t upset you in any way, it’s just a thought.
