A fire at a barbecue restaurant in Wroxall has prompted a large response from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service this evening (Sunday).
The alarm was raised at around 19:50 with fire crews from a host of Island Stations including Newport, Shanklin and Sandown called to Smokin’ Jack’s on High Street.
Firefighters equipped in breathing apparatus have entered the building using hose reel jets to tackle an internal blaze – which broke out in the kitchen.
In total, 3 pumping appliances are at the scene alongside the Aerial Ladder Platform and Incident Command Unit from Newport.
An Operational Commander from The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has been called to the scene however it is not believed any serious injuries have been sustained.
The incident is under control, firefighters are just dampening down.
UPDATE @ 21:10 – Smokin’ Jack’s have confirmed on their Facebook Page that no serious injuries have been sustained.
They have said:
“We’ve got a slight situation this evening.
“Our kitchen has had a small fire and is currently being dealt with by the wonderful fire brigade.
“Well, Smokin’ Jack’s by name – Smokin’ Jack’s by nature!”
Does anyone actually go to this pub/restaurant?
To put it bluntly no. I think this fire is very suspect, the chef/cook goes off sick 4 days ago as mentioned on Facebook, the owners announce on Facebook also they will be closing on the 18th and 19th of September to allow for “family time”, then there is a fire in the kitchen, sounds really dodgy. If I owned a business and had a fire I wouldn’t be joking about it very much either.
Sounds fishy to me, it’s not the 1st time such incidents have taken place on the
Island.
Just read the menu. £20 for a burger!!!! £36 for a 10 oz ribeye steak!!!! Daylight robbery.
