Firefighters have returned to the scene of Monday’s devastating barn fire on the outskirts of Ryde tonight (Thursday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has mobilised crews from Ryde back to Green Lane Farm, where the smouldering hay and staw that was destroyed by fire on Bank Holiday Monday has once again caught alight.
Due to the wind direction and risk to further properties, crews from Ryde are now dampening down the area of the barn that was left severely damaged.
Both an aerial ladder platform and a pumping appliance are on scene attacking the fire from above.
Crews using main jets and breathing apparatus are likely to work into the early hours to dampen down hotspots that have reignited some 4 days after the initial fire.
Residents in the area may notice a drop in water pressure as crews tap into fire hydrants once again to help bring the situation under control.
What a poor show. God help us if a petrol station or tyres caught fire, ONE barn with straw cannot be extinguished after DAYS and countless crew and appliances.
Let’s hope for our sake we never get a Lockerbie disaster here, we will all be toast.
If you’d ever attended a barn fire perhaps you’d understand how difficult it is to completely extinguish straw and hay bales in comparison to a furniture fire.
Might be worth the fire services waiting at the farm ready for his next fire.
