UPDATED: Emergency services have responded to a single vehicle road traffic collision on Middle Road near Calbourne this morning (Tuesday).
A van has ended up on its roof on the main Newport to Freshwater road, between The Blacksmith Arms and The Sun Inn.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene shortly before 10:00 as it was feared that the driver of the small van was trapped in the wreckage. However, upon arrival of Newport fire crews it was established that no persons were trapped.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are attending to the van driver.
Police have closed the road in both directions whilst recovery of the vehicle is arranged.
UPDATE @ 11:46 – The driver has been checked over by paramedics, but has not required hospital treatment.
The road has now re-opened in both directions.
