The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called out to Home Bargains in Gunville this lunchtime (Thursday).
Multiple fire appliances from Newport and Ryde were mobilised to the commercial building on Taylor Road at around 11:50.
Lunchtime shoppers were evacuated when the store’s alarm sounded.
Upon the arrival of the first crew, it was confirmed that the situation was a false alarm caused by an Automatic Fire Alarm (AFA).
All fire appliances have now stood down from the incident and have returned to station.
Shoppers have been allowed back into the store.

I for one and I’m sure I speak on behalf of all of the island, we all appreciate what the blue light services do , weather it’s a false alarm or not.

Totally agree with you, Aziz latest comments are totally off the wall!! Especially one regarding chimney fire in Niton. Obviously seems to thrive on horrible things happening.
Just to say grammatically, weather is wind rain snow etc— wanted was whether: To express doubt between choices or alternatives.

A joke.
One of the very basic imperatives inculcated into me at every level of my fire training is that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A ‘FALSE’ ALARM. An accidental alarm needs the same level of, hopefully unnecessary, response.
Try telling the fire chiefs that as majority of alarms actuating don’t receive a response. Either by getting call challenged or getting classed as non sleeping hours
