Firefighters from Ryde have worked quickly to prevent a field fire from spreading in Nettlestone this afternoon (Tuesday).
1 appliance was mobilised to the rural location between Pondwell and Nettlestone at around 17:10.
It’s thought that with the current tinder dry conditions, a tractor simply working in the field caused the fire to begin.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has now stood down from the incident.
Ryde’s Green Watch have said:
“Conditions are so dry it only takes a spark or shard of glass to cause fires like this. Please be vigilant when out in open spaces.”
Today’s incident comes just 24 hours after a much larger field fire in Ryde, adjacent to Nicholson Road.
Three and a half more weeks the the mystery fires will cease.
