A field fire in Brook, which has damaged a hedge and part of a field, has been tackled by firefighters this evening (Monday).
Crews from Freshwater and Newport were mobilised to the scene near to Military Road at around 19:30.
Swift actions by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service means the blaze has already been extinguished and has been contained to a small area.
Farmers are now working to cut the rest of the field to prevent the fire from potentially reigniting and spreading to a larger area.
Smoke could be seen from as far away as Blackgang View Point Car Park, as the sun sets on what has been the hottest day of the year.
UPDATE @ 21:40 – The incident has now been brought to a close. The cause is unknown.
An area of approximately 150 x 100m has been damaged.
A spokesperson for Freshwater Fire Station has said:
“Once again we ask everyone to be mindful of the fire safety advice on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service website at https://www.hantsfire.gov.uk/safety/leisure-and-lifestyle/in-the-countryside/.”
