FEARS FOR OVERDUE VESSEL LEADS TO EARLY MORNING SEARCH


Coastguard Rescue Officers from The Needles spent around 2 hours searching the West Wight for an overdue vessel during the earlier hours of this morning (Sunday).

Solent Coastguard paged The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team at 01:09 to request their assistance in locating a sailing vessel which was reported as being overdue.

The last plotted location of the missing vessel was 5 miles south of Chilton Chine.

Searches of bays and beaches along the West Wight coast were carried out, right round to Yarmouth Harbour.

Thankfully, the overdue vessel was located safe and well at Newtown Creek.

Needles CRT returned to station at 03:30.
