3 fire crews and police are responding to reports of a fire in the kitchen of a domestic property in Gurnard this evening (Wednesday).
2 appliances from Newport, 1 from Ryde and the Incident Command Unit from Newport have been mobilised to Albert Road in Gurnard, according to fire control.
Police have also sent a number of resources to the scene and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have been alerted.
It is reported that persons are inside the property.
The alarm was raised at 17:45 and it is thought the fire stems from a grill.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that the fire was out upon arrival of fire crews.
Working smoke alarms fitted within the property alerted the residents to the situation, enabling them to quickly dial 999.
Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to inspect the affected ares before standing down and returning to station.

So why didn’t the Cowes fire appliance turn out to this incident?
I suspect that there was no crew available at the Cowes Station for that call out . The same reason I suspect for the fire near Sandown Fire Station . Need to recruit and train more Retained Fire fighters .
