Emergency services including the Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance at a collision involving a car and an elderly man in Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday).
An ambulance, several police units and a paramedic officer have descended onto the junction between Swanmore Road and Partlands Avenue after receiving reports of a man being struck by a van.
Several members of the public have provided first aid to the man, who is thought to have suffered a head injury in the incident. A smash mark can be seen on the windscreen of a blue van which is believed to have been caused by the impact.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene, but was stood down once overhead.
It’s understood that the man is being treated by paramedics alongside an off-duty nurse who happened to be passing the scene at the time of the incident.
UPDATE – A man in his 80s, who was riding a bicycle at the time of the collision, is being treated for injuries, it has been confirmed.

Hope the man is going to be okay. Awful shock for him.
Some of the driving I have witnessed in this area is shocking driver attitude is I’m going and it’s 30mp for a reason
I hope all are ok and make a full recovery my comment is in general not knowing the full Circumstances.
Yet another island road traffic collision and this one, like many others, involving personal injury.
I was scanning through Island Echo’s ‘Breaking News’ a few days ago and I was struck by the fact that almost every other report was about a road traffic incident.
Since the removal of a dedicated Roads Policing Unit on the island a few years ago, driving standards have dangerously declined and evidenced by the sheer number of collisions.
It’s not all down to boy and girl racers either. White Van Man and some OAPs are equally guilty.
That’s the /nd one in two days in ryde what is going on are people just jay walking ??
This one was Cycling..
Hope the man is ok partlands avenue is like a rat run can’t believe the speed of cars going up there sometimes total idiots driving around this srea
The cyclist is a friend of my mother. Latest news that he is still in hospital, Saturday 18th September. They are closely monitoring the head injury.
