UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a property fire in Freshwater this afternoon (Sunday).

Appliances from Newport, Cowes, Yarmouth and Ventnor have been mobilised to the incident at Redlake Road, off Copse Lane. The call for help came in at just gone midday.

It is understood all persons are accounted for, but investigations are underway to identify the cause of smoke issuing from inside the property.

UPDATE @ 13:15 – Resources have now been stood from the incident as on-scene investigations have failed to identify any obvious sign of fire.

It’s thought that paramedics and Police also responded to this incident, but they too have now stood down.

UPDATE @ 13:45 – The cause of this afternoon’s alert has been discovered.

Firefighters have determined that sunlight magnified through a glass globe set fire to a nearby perfume box.
