Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at a property fire in the West Wight tonight (Wednesday).
Several crews are said to be on scene at Guyers Road in Freshwater, alongside Police.
Appliances from Freshwater and Newport responded to the incident on the residential street shortly before 21:15.
Locals say that multiple emergency vehicles have descended on the area.
UPDATE THURSDAY – It has been confirmed that an elderly resident was rescued from a smoke-logged property after neighbours raised the alarm.
Working smoke alarms alerted nearby residents to the fire, which was caused by the householder leaving a pan on the hob before falling asleep.
Crews used breathing apparatus to make entry to the property and locate the resident, who was then tended to by firefighters ahead of the arrival of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
With the situation under control, positive pressure ventilation was used to rid smoke from the house.
Positioning, maintaining and testing smoke detectors in your home could save your life. Excuse me that wasn’t me with the smoke weed comment !!!!
I was asleep….
Must have an impostor…
yes dear, of course you were….(shameful).
Glad to hear the resident was rescued due to the working smoke alarm. Brings home the need to check they work or better still get interlinked alarms within a property to detect smoke or excessive heat in any room then sound throughout the property.
No one needs to die because of a 9v battery.
What a sensible comment, I don’t know why most people only come on here to post stupidly, too much time, too little brain (previous comments noted)
