The troubled Cowes Floating Bridge service has been suspended this evening (Wednesday) due to an electrical fault.
Earlier this afternoon the Cowes-East Cowes link was halted when the unreliable Floating Bridge No.6 developed a fault relating to its electrics.
A launch service is in operation for foot passengers and cyclists and will remain so until the vessel can be returned to service.
The Isle of Wight Council has not yet given an estimated time of when the service will resume.
UPDATE SATURDAY – The service is to resume from 14:00 this afternoon.

How many more times does this boat have to break down before those so called people in charge realise it needs to be scrapped ASAP as NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.
Oh that’s a shame .. what was the fault/failure last week .. ? Must be time for barnacle removal
Well well well, thought it had it’s check up not so very long ago ??????.
The never ending fiasco continues !!!!!!!
What was the outcome of the mediation ????? Or is it still ongoing?????
The council seem to have gone very quiet re the push me pull me non floating heap of junk !!!!!!
Are we the cash cow’s of the island ever going to find out ?????.
Probably so busy arguing they don’t know themselves …..
No cannot still be ongoing, probably broke down again OOOPs
Miss Sensible there is an old saying LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE , It looks to me that this council is hoping in that direction and that the rate payers will just forget .
The rate payers will not just forget., if they do well , they have another think comming , I.O.W Council sort out your own mess dont expect other people to do it for you …
It’s all been said before. So no comment
WOW HOW UNUSUAL !!
Time to build a bridge.
i went over a bridge yesterday at Sheerness no problems even the yachts was able to pass underneath thats what we need
This pile of scrap is utterly unfit for purpose, the recent reports said it was badly designed, badly built and totally unfit for service, stop wasting our money on the thing and just get rid of it, we would be better off with a reliable launch service.
Even funnier then the FB is out of service, is the “Breaking News” headline.. it’s a given that the thing is moored up, more than it is operational.. the only free tourist attraction on the Island .. thanks IWC ..
this council will go on and on wasteing tax payers money ,it is not there money, this white elephant should now be removed from service all together and this council
Cowes you cannot milk, Freshwater you cannot drink, Ryde where you walk, The needles you cannot thread and the Floating Bridge that hardly ever does! 🙂 🙂
