Objections to a local takeaway selling alcohol from their converted horsebox in Cowes have been withdrawn.
Cowes Town Council had originally objected to a plan by Eat Street to sell pre-ordered booze along with its meals from its base in Mill Hill Road.
A hearing was due to be heard by the Isle of Wight council today (Monday), due to an objection against the licence by Cowes Town Council.
The town council argued, for the 1 day a week Eat Street operates from that address, nearby residents may be disturbed by customers collecting orders. It felt, if those collecting orders had already consumed alcohol, it would cause a public nuisance to neighbours.
Responding to concerns, the online catering business said it would not be a case that people could just turn up to collect food. It said orders had to be placed the day before; alcohol would only be sold with food, and it would not encourage large amounts of alcohol through offers.
It also said it would operate an age-verification process for all alcohol sales and it was the nature of its business that customers would consume the food at home.
Now, a town council spokesperson has confirmed, after discussions with Eat Street, councillors now understand the business activity and have withdrawn their objection.
The Isle of Wight Council meeting has now been cancelled and due to the lack of objections, or officers’ concerns with the application, can grant the licence

Or someone got a brown envelope “wink wink”
Well done ,so pleased for you.
Local enterprise.
> It felt, if those collecting orders had already consumed alcohol, it would cause a public nuisance to neighbours.
Next in line for the chopping block with that logic: Sainsbury and M&S.
Agreed, with that logic they should close all bus stops at the weekend.
Well done. Good news. 🙂
given that most town councils are composed of geriatric self important nimby’s who cannot stand change or enterprise who was surpised they objected without the slightest knowledge of how this business would be run.
Hope they have checked the deeds on the property as a great deal of properties in the area cannot be used for business purposes due to a covenant
Let it flow, let it flow.
