East Cowes Town Council has said that ‘the case is closed’ regarding the incident that saw Town Mayor Tracy Reardon drunkenly grab and man’s beard and try to take his phone at the local Conservative Club earlier this month. As exclusively reported by Island Echo and subsequently featured in the MailOnline, Police were called on 3rd November, at 01:39 in the morning, to reports that a man in his 30s had been assaulted by a woman — later confirmed to be East Cowes mayor, Councillor Tracy Reardon — outside the Conservative Club on Clarence Road. Inside the premises, Councillor Reardon grabbed a man’s beard and tried to steal his phone. At the time, Councillor Reardon is said to have not been acting in her capacity as town mayor – despite proclaiming to those inside the Con Club that she ‘was the Mayor of East Cowes’. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 55-year-old was dealt with by means of a community resolution in which she is required to write a letter of apology and complete a diversionary course. At Thursday’s East Cowes Town Council meeting, a short statement was read out by Sue Chilton, the council’s clerk, on behalf of the body. In it, she said there had been recent coverage about the incident involving Councillor Reardon and confirmed the Police have dealt with it and are not taking any official action. Ms Chilton said:
“Councillor Reardon has voluntarily resigned from the Conservative Club and offered her sincere apologies to those concerned. “This council now considers the matter closed.”
Councillor Reardon – who didn’t reply to Island Echo when asked if she was going to stand down from her post – did not say anything on the matter. All the members of the public at the meeting were in support of Councillor Reardon.

Absolute disgrace of a woman especially in her position as mayor, should be sacked and do proper community service.
Rather than wait to be sacked, she should have resigned as soon as she sobered up.
The Mayor should set a good example even when off-duty.
The Council have let the residents down by not taking action when she failed to resign, giving the low life of East Cowes an excuse for unacceptable behaviour: “Well m’lud, I was only acting like the Mayor when I assaulted this geezer in the pub when he looked at me in a way I didn’t like”
Maybe they are waiting for her to sober up?

When you hold a position such as Mayor it does not finish until the duration of Mayor ship has ended. A Mayor’s actions are accountable to the area they represent 24/7. In other words they should Lead by Example.
