Police are seeking the driver of a vehicle that ploughed into a man and a woman whilst they were walking through the streets of Newport during the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
As first reported by Island Echo, a cordon has been established around a crime scene near to TK Maxx on South Street in the town as detectives investigate the overnight incident.
Hampshire Constabulary says that the assault took place at around 02:40 when a vehicle – a description of which the Police aren’t disclosing – drove at the pedestrians.
A man and a woman, both in their 20s, suffered ankle injuries as a result.
Debris from the car – including a wing mirror – can be seen at the scene alongside a smashed bottle of alcohol.
Police believe that all parties involved are known to one another.
Enquiries remain ongoing and the cordon remains in place.

Moving away from the post, I must admit I don’t like seeing the advert that’s all over Island Echo depicting what looks like a Zombie with a knife. Bad taste Island Echo. Too many knives being used to kill and mame. I know it’s an advert for Terror Island, but it’s still bad taste.
I bet the pedestrians weren’t whareing anything white out there like the highway code says and by the all you idiots that think the highway code is law ITS NOT its only advisory for driving unless your a pensioner and know everything, yeah right
