A crime scene has been cordoned off in Newport Town Centre following a serious assault during the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
Police are in attendance on South Street, at the entrance to TK Maxx’s delivery bay, as a result of the overnight fracas.
Island Echo understands that at least 1 person has been taken to hospital following what is thought to be an assault involving a glass bottle.
A car is also believed to have been involved.
Detectives are this morning investigating the incident, which occurred at around 03:00.
The cordon around shards of glass is in place between TK Maxx’s South Street entrance and Cockrams Yard.

There is something SERIOUSLY WRONG with these people, or anyone who would take a glass bottle or a knife and intentionally harm another human being. This sadly, is the way of some which needs to be dealt with HARSHLY by Judges. To date, this has not been happening. A deterrent must be applied to try and stop this sort of behaviour from escalating and soon!

Islanders have priority over housing here for many years, it’s getting worse because of council’s ? yes, they took away Youth Service, Community support officers and yes the CCTV,but they saved money! But at the expense to our young and us who become victims etc. Very soon another death will be to blame at Council doors. Stop having endless meetings and paper pushing and do something productive to help support you’re community. As said before why do we need hundreds of council’s when government officers make the rules and do the work.

If you ‘work’ for the IWC then you must be the only one. Plenty of people are on their books and a few even attend IWC premises now and again – but ‘work’?? I see little evidence of any of that happening any more.
unfortunately taxpayer I am just a taxpayer as well, who choses to work instead of living off benefits, again unfortunately I am unable to change council policy or the impression they give. I can just get up daily do my modest job and pay my bills and taxes.

The cctv monitoring service should never of been stopped and yet the council can waste OUR MONEY on other things , rightly said Bond …bring back the CCTV cameras in our towns on the Island !

Terrible. But there are CCTV cameras in that area so hopefully the police will catch the culprit soon. Of course that depends if the cameras are working
