Police have been involved in the pursuit of an Audi on the outskirts of Newport this afternoon (Wednesday).
Officers began pursuing the vehicle after the driver failed to stop in the Shide area of Newport.
Island Echo readers have described seeing the pursuit weaving through the residential streets around Medina Avenue before venturing onto country lanes at Watergate Road.
Unfortunately, the vehicle got away from the specially trained Police near Blackwater.
Minor damage was sustained to the wing mirror of the Police’s X5 armed response vehicle.
This afternoon’s incident is the 4th such pursuit in just 3 days. Previously, Police have been involved in pursuing a VW in Wootton, a Nissan in Brading and a Mitsubishi in Ryde.
This is great PR for the police to be fair, imagine the relief of the culprits, great for their mental health during lockdown, looking forward to more stories of police charity!
We need to be like the USA run them of the road before it goes to far if this keeps on some member of the public going to be killed
Drug runners are on the move
We live on a little island how are they getting away and not being found,sounds like a challenge game the kids have been doing on the mainland,some poor sods going to get killed

Maybe it’s the way the police take action, do they have to make known they are a police vehicle before they can attempt to pull them over?
How else do you pull someone over?? They would have to declare they are police, that’s a big part of the procedure. Otherwise you would stop for everyone that waves at you worried that they could possibly be the police pulling you over….. discreetly
I meant overtake them and force them to stop, not have a little wave at them. Don’t give them the chance to race off as soon as the siren or lights flash. Simple.
Thing is police know who they are,but even when caught cps don’t let it proceed, best that can happen cars get smashed taken off them maybe the culprits have a minor accident to make them think next time.
Are they goading the police to see how far to push it, endangering everyone in the process? These idiots must be stopped before they kill someone or themselves!

Exactly. What a sensible comment. Police do call of pursuits if they believe it is to dangerous to continue, so in fact bert, bill, Jack and bob etc, they probably did you a favour in case you happened to be having a stroll down a country lane.

To be fair if it’s the black x5 police officer who stands at the side of the road with a speed gun then the guy speeding only has to floor it and get away before the cop can get back in his car

Grow up Tintin, not all Audi drivers are drug addicts or dealers. I have a beautiful Audi A5 and have never taken drugs in my life, have a medical degree and never had any points or even been stopped by police. Stop stereotyping and get a life…

The police stop the pursuit when the chase gets too dangerous and it risks the safety of the public.
Yup, loads of people attacked and blamed the police for accidents instead of the criminals when chasing these people. The police can no longer do their job. Blame the middle class liberals that don’t have to live in the real world. Now all you need to do is drive really bad and you’ll get away with anything.
Wonder if it was drugs related or car offences, there’s too many of these car chases lately on the Island.

Having witnessed for many months exactly the same vehicles (and presumably the same drivers) invariably being driven aggressively and at break-neck speeds along the Carisbrooke Road and Carisbrooke High Street, I have sent a Freedom of Information request to the Hants and IW Police.
I have asked them to supply the statistics for the last three years on the number of vehicles seized by police under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act. I have asked for the figures for the force area as a whole and separate figures for the IW.
Under the Act the police have powers to issue a notice under the Act if they witness ASB driving. If the offender is seen again driving anti socially police have powers to seize the vehicle and have it crushed.
I am NOT holding my breath. I anticipate a zero result for the IW given the constant repeat offenders I witness every week.
