The pursuit of a silver hatchback has resulted in a driver being arrested by Police in Wootton this afternoon (Monday).
3 Police units pursued the VW Polo after it failed to stop for officers in the Wootton area at just before 16:30.
The chase continued through Firestone Copse and Binstead before following the main road towards Newport – as captured on camera below. The suspect vehicle then turned onto New Road, a quiet residential road leading to Woodside Bay.
Officers have now brought the pursuit to an end and have arrested the driver on suspicion of a number of driving offences.
6 Police units are currently in attendance at New Road, with the detained male being taken into custody. 3 other males in the vehicle have been let on their way.
The vehicle has been seized and will be recovered in due course.
UPDATE – A 23-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence, driving without third party insurance, failing to stop for Police and for providing a positive drug wipe (drug driving).
He has since been released under investigation to allow the blood sample to be sent for analysis in relation to the drug driving. He will be sent to court in due course.

Wot a twat
Chav clothing, chav old VW, and probably chav attitude…
No disrespect to decent people that own old VW’s….
Unfortunately chavs usually go for VW’s or Ford’s..I.e focus..
This is the problem with the mentally of people, just because the odd few are like this, people want to label everyone who owns these types of cars, a lot of us spend a lot of money on our cars, most of our cars are more better maintained than the rest of the cars on the roads today,
That’s why I said no disrespect to decent people that own these cars!..
Well Clare, since your such an upstanding member of this community what car do you drive that give you the right to judge everyone else….Micra?
My car was purchased August 2019 at a cost of £27.000, it’s a Toyota corolla estate, and it’s a 1.8 petrol Hybrid that does an average of 68 miles per gallon.
It’s no boy racer but I love it,..
You spent £27,000 on a Toyota Corolla you got robbed hahaha
27k!! Lucky you can afford it!
To Me, don’t worry Clare is just a very sad person. No one takes any notice of. Just read most of her past comments.
Open eyed,
Me thinks, Perhaps you doth protest too much!!!
Hi Clare….love you really x
Intelligent facts
What a ridiculous comment.
My gran drives faster than that
I see Garry Fry is back on the streets. Wonder if he’s got a driving license yet?
Gary is an upstanding member of the community
Why were the other 3 let go….were they all from the same household?
Reg… AK51 ZLY NO TAX
No brains either!
No tax, no insurance, no m.o.t….no brain..
The Polo was closely followed by an Opel Fruit?
Great
You win the internet for that comment
More low life driving around (not now )
What a complete was of police resources and endangering members of the public but no doubt he wil get a slap on the wrist and sent off with a ban or points on the licence he probably doesn’t have….1st class parasite
What an idiot, well done police.
But what a pointless video clip from IE!!!
Hopefully he’ll lose his car so won’t be free to do the same next week.
Banjo. Yes many ‘hope’ for something, like an after life, or that people who do horrid things will be punished by a greater power elsewhere. A very handy cop out, to avoid dealing with real issues in real time, by ‘hoping’ nasty people will get their ‘come uppunce’ or karma now.
They won’t, they as stated will have a more fun action filled life, than those hoping they will fall at the next hurdle i fear.
Why do you say the video is pointless?
Police wasting there time. Judge will make some apologies, maybe issue an Asbo.
THEIR time, not there time. There means ‘over there’. Eg.. Police chased the vehicle over there. THEIR fellow officers arrived with back up. THEY’RE a great team.
You might have a different opinion of police wasting their time if this car had hit you, or a member of your family. Good job police stopped them.
I thought I was watching the sweeney
6 police vehicles to chase a little Polo. Bit over the top.
My daughter and son in llaw witnessed the chase on foot with a a police dog in Woodside bay. He is not an Islander as he has a northern accent`
Omg, a northerner! I heard about these strange creatures, but never seen one in person before!
Glad no one was hurt in the chase, that’s the main thing!
your name surpasses your ignorance.
You can have a northern accent and live on the island believe it or not
Northern accent = doesn’t live here? How exactly do you come to that conclusion?
Wrong story?!
Was boasting on FB.
Pass it on to the Police please.
Have you informed the police?
Think i saw this car parked in Sandown
What a tit
Hilarious how many police to chase one poxy car? That’ll be because there’s no burglaries as everyone is home and no drunken behaviour as pubs are closed. Oh and all those retired police officers re-called to fight a crime wave that wasn’t.
6 police units for 1 vehicle, lol what a waste of resources. Looks good though 6 cars 8 cops,
Going by the pictures, I’m only guessing here, I’m no expert but there’s 6 police officers that I can count from the pictures. I’m wondering if police officers are counted as units?
Why all the police cars? Say someone got killed, how do you arrest 4 would be villains to find out who was driving? In my book you’ll need at least 8 officers.
The more officers they can spare the safer the arrest will be for them.I don’t suppose they know excacly how someone like that is going to react when cornered.Only last week there was a report on here of officers being assaulted.I wonder how many of the brave posters on here criticising the police would like to try and catch and arrest these nutters ?
I hear you!
Well said!!!
Hey! That “poxy” little Polo was my first ever car… :'( Literally, that actual car. Tough to watch your loved ones fall in with the wrong crowd.
