The driver of a car that was found on its roof down a country lane in Brighstone on Wednesday night has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Emergency services were called to Galley Lane at around 20:35 on 22nd February after receiving reports that a person was trapped inside a vehicle which had overturned.
3 fire appliances from Newport – including the Response Support Vehicle – were mobilised to the scene, alongside several resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Police also attended the incident and it was soon ascertained that the driver was believed to be under the influence. As a result, a roadside breath test was carried out, which the driver failed.
Paramedics conveyed the individual to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport so that he could be checked over for injuries sustained.
It’s at the hospital where blood tests were taken, the results of which are pending.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“If you’re under the influence of alcohol or other substances, don’t get in a vehicle. It’s really not that hard”.

I hope every attending professional admonished him not only from diverting their emergency services from a deserving case and reminded him what an absolute wucking fanker he is.
I remember the days when people drove cars, not rolled cars.
You’re quite right, but one does question THREE fire appliances and SEVERAL ambulance resources
Of course, a motorist doing what they wanted to do, one of those highly advanced types. I dated a drink driver, she was lazy and entitled.
Can’t we just end motoring for the unmeritous? It’s considered to be an entitlement, inevitably abused.
How the hell do you roll a car in Galley Lane? What an absolute menace.
Sometimes I have to drive because I am far too pi%sed to walk.
