A 26-year-old man from the Isle of Wight has been arrested after police stopped a vehicle in Freshwater earlier this morning (Wednesday).
Officers on patrol stopped a vehicle on Afton Road at around 08:20.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
The man remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
Police on social media said the stop involved Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) officers, Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officers and a local neighbourhood officer.
The vehicle involved, a red Vauxhall Astra VXR, was brought to a safe stop before the driver was detained.
Enquiries remain ongoing.

I cannot believe persons who are disqualified from driving
still drive, stronger punishments is the answer, they obviously
don’t respect the law.
Needs banging up, otherwise these persons can re-offend
again and again!
Well done.
Time to get the Crusher running, and when crushed the vehicle owner should sue them for the cost of the vehicle and crushing costs.
About time, drink and drug driving is rife in west wight, and even if you report it nothing gets done,a certain pub near alum bay is bad with it,especially sunday lunchtime.
Plod should wait up the road and pull up and check every
motorist leaving Sunday lunchtimes, they would have a
field day.
There are people in west wight that drive every day and havent passed their driving test, you have more chance of flying to the moon than seeing a rozzer in freshwater/totland/yarmouth
The island needs more police, all the fines etc made
would pay for the extra Police required.
