A man caught driving 6 months into a year-long driving ban was also found to be under the influence of cocaine behind the wheel.
Nicky Dickinson, 38, care of Solent Gardens in Freshwater, pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified, driving without 3rd party insurance and drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (4th November).
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening of 25th July, at around 19:40, Police asked for assistance dealing with a male in a blue Hyundai i30 outside The Bugle on St James’ Street in Yarmouth.
Officers had pulled Dickinson over and had found a small clear bag with what looked like a white powder in it in his car. A roadside drugs wipe was completed and the 38-year-old tested positive for cocaine and cannabis.
Dickinson was taken to Newport Police Station where it was found that he was driving whilst disqualified and without correct insurance. Blood test results that came back in October found that the 38-year-old had 199mg of Benzoylegonine in his blood – the legal limit is 50.
Back in February, Dickinson was handed a 12-month driving ban for a similar offence. He was only 6 months into the ban at the time of these offences.
Defending, Amy Hosell said that her client knows that he shouldn’t have driven that day and that he had been driving since he was 17 with no criminal convictions until now. She also said that he was now homeless and living on the streets.
The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be compiled. Nicky Dickinson will be back in court on 25th November.

homeless living on the streets but has money to buy drugs and fuel
Clearly the boat loads arriving DON’T come for our weather.
They come to work a few hours, AT BEST and then know as all on tax credits know, that their rent. council tax, and low wage will be made up to a good living and the more clones you burden the state with the more you will be paid.
That is why they come to a cold, wet overcrowded country.
I think you must be responding to a article.
Unfortunately they are also coming over to organise certain drug deals and crime especially in the terrorism area, you get the good and bad in every walk of life but the boat people are also using children as young as 5 if not younger. Listen to the news.
The article states that he is homeless now. Not at the time of the offence. Is English your first language?
are the same as him then prat
She also said that he was now homeless and living on the streets
lies – he has a car and is therefore, at worst, living in it.
Knows he shouldn’t have?. Been driving for last 6mths I expect, just got caught this time. Sure has some nice friends who care about him and others for allowing him to drive. We need to clean this island up of druggies, harsher sentences given to protect inocent and law abiding. At least if prison he won’t be homeless!.
Always such prestigious addresses these people.
Unfortunately there are loads of these losers everywhere, so let’s start showing their faces please. Let society know just who they are. Name and shame them. If you break the laws of this land then do not expect society to accept your attitude and total disregard to the law. I’ve seen some people who have been on this and the county press websites for breaking the law and as I approached then I mentioned that I’ve read about them in the local media, they instantly turn red and blush and often drop their head in shame. Let them know we haven’t forgotten.
They have no shame
Dick by name Dick by nature….
Well just wait and see what sentence the island judges hand out to this chancer.
Driving on a ban with cocaine in his system……
Nothing too lenient I hope……as they usually do.
A small fine and another ban. Absolutely pathetic the sentences they are given.
Sadly this once peaceful beautiful Isle is becoming Drug Island.
Hardly a safe place to bring up children.
What do you mean becoming it has always had a drug problem. When you have a lot of poverty you have a lot of drugs
Been driving since 17 but no criminal convictions until now?Ha! just not been caught earlier.
As we are constantly told by some users of this facility, it’s the older drivers who present the most danger on our roads. Yeah, right.
38 year old driving since he was 17 with no criminal convictions! Shame he wasn’t caught when he was 17 his path in life may have been more beneficial to society than it is now, yet again how many times has be managed to drive under the influence and not been caught. You reap what you sow and he has managed to sow on barren land. Take it vehicle wasn’t taxed or insured, so the public should be grateful they were not involved in an accident. The jails are getting full, 2 years community service will hopeful be more beneficial than locking him up as drug use is rife in the prisons.
This guy is a woman beater.
A thief, a crack addict, beats women in front of their children.
