2 women have been issued dispersal notices after police were called to a disturbance in Newport town centre on Sunday (18th January).
Officers attended the scene at around 11:46 after members of the public raised concerns about the women’s behaviour in the busy area.
A local beat officer, accompanied by a pair of PCSOs, responded to the incident. The women were found to be under the influence and causing a disturbance to people out enjoying their Sunday.
As a result, a dispersal order was authorised under Section 34 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. This power allows police to direct individuals to leave a specific area for a set period of time. In this case, the order covered a 24-hour period and applied to a designated area within Newport.
The 2 females were issued notices instructing them not to return to the area. If they do return during the order’s timeframe, they will be arrested and required to explain their actions before a Magistrate.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said that officers will continue to carry out regular patrols in Newport to tackle antisocial behaviour and respond to reports from the public.
Residents are reminded that non-urgent reports can be made via the Hampshire Police website or by calling 101.

Sure they’ll be there again today.
