Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was tasked to reports of persons drifting out to sea in a dinghy off the coast of Ventnor earlier this afternoon (Saturday).
The volunteer lifeboat crew launched ‘Dove II’ for the second time today at around 16:05 following a tasking from Solent Coastguard. Reports had been received that a dinghy was drifting towards the Luccombe area from Bonchurch.
Having raced to the scene at 32knts, Sandown Lifeboat found a 6ft blue dinghy with 2 adults on board and was able to direct them to go ashore at Monks Bay.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team met with the individuals and offered strong words of advice about the dangers of taking inflatables to sea.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
