Over 100 delegates – accompanied remotely by 200 students at a watch party across the road – descend on Quay Arts on Wednesday when the Island’s first-ever TED talk, TEDxLukelyBrook, took place.
The Anthony Minghella Theatre was packed out as a stellar line-up of inspirational speakers took to the stage following the theme of ‘If not now, when?’.
The event got underway shortly after 10:00 with a fantastic performance by local singer-songwriter Beth Brookfield, who performed a song she had specially written for the event.
A series of thought-provoking talks then followed, kicked off by James Green – Divisional Director of deVere. Local personality Tom Stroud later delivered an emotive narration on behalf of Josh Barry, acting as Josh’s voice for the event.
Other speakers on the day included Gina London, Clive Loseby, Dr Adrian Gill, Mart-Drake Knight, Kim Davis, Tina Jennings, Will Perry and Tim Sissons.
A light lunch prepared by Quay Arts was offered to delegates, which offered an opportunity for delegates to reflect on the morning’s speeches whilst building anticipation for the afternoon’s session.
Schools and colleges from across the Island were able to get involved in TedXLukelyBrook thanks to a watch party at Riverside Centre. The whole event was not only live-streamed to YouTube, but also across the River Medina to the Trafalgar Room at the Riverside Centre.
Following the success of this year’s event, it is hoped that a much larger event, perhaps over 3 days, will be licenced by TED in 2025. It could see more than 40 speakers descend on the Isle of Wight alongside more than 1,000 delegates.
