UPDATED: DELAYS AT SHANKLIN’S SKEW BRIDGE FOLLOWING REPORTS OF MEDICAL EPISODE

Motorists travelling between Lake and Shanklin are facing considerable delays due to an ongoing incident at Skew Bridge this afternoon (Tuesday).

Island Echo has been told that a car has come to rest in a hedge following what’s believed to be a medical episode. It’s not thought that emergency services are on the scene as of yet, but their arrival is expected shortly.

Heavy traffic and long queues are evident stretching back into Lake from the bridge, with motorists advised to take an alternative route. Queues are also beginning to build stretching from the scene back into Shanklin.

UPDATE @ 15:46 – It’s understood that an ambulance crew has now arrived on the scene and is tending to the female driver of the vehicle involved.

UPDATE @ 17:35 – Skew Bridge is now clear of obstruction and traffic is returning to normal levels.
