The deadline is approaching for community organisations and charities to bid for a share of the £3,000 fund being made available by an Isle of Wight Councillor.
Grants of up to £300 each to local charities and voluntary organisations are being made available by Cllr Chris Whitehouse (Conservative Newport West) and the application deadline is Friday, 21st August.
Cllr Chris Whitehouse says:
“I’ve had some very interesting and worthwhile bids so far, but I’m surprised that not more groups have applied, so I’m reminding them today that they still have time.”
Since first elected to the Council, Cllr Whitehouse has always given away the money he receives in allowances and claims no expenses.
The councillor is asking voluntary organisations wanting to apply for the funding to write to him at County Hall, Newport, PO30 1UD, or to email him at [email protected] explaining:
• What the organization is and does
• Whether it is a charity or voluntary organization
• Whether it operates a Gift Aid scheme
• For how much it is bidding and how that figure has been calculated
• What it needs the grant for
• How many people would benefit were the grant to be given
• How the project would benefit the residents of Newport West or the town of Newport as a whole
• Why other sources of funding are unavailable
• And how, in due course, it can be demonstrated that the funds were used for the purpose requested.
Cllr Whitehouse continued:
“I’m keeping a very open mind about which voluntary organisations might apply and might be successful. All bids will be considered on their merits, but preference will be given to organisations that would use the funds to provide services to residents of my own ward of Newport West or the town of Newport as a whole.
“Successful applicants are unlikely to be those who bid for funds for an individual or very small group of individuals. I’d really like to see the funds used to encourage community services that benefit quite a few local people.”
