Three men arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following another fire at the derelict Cygnet Hotel in Sandown have now been released on bail.
Police were called at 19:54 on Tuesday evening following reports of a fire at the long-abandoned hotel on Carter Street.
Firefighters from Sandown, Ryde, Newport and Ventnor attended the scene alongside an Aerial Ladder Platform and the temporary Incident Command Support vehicle to tackle the blaze, described as ‘small’.
Carter Street was closed at its junction with Broadway for around 2 hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that, following enquiries, a 56-year-old man from Shanklin, a 45-year-old man from Sandown and a 43-year-old man from Newport were arrested nearby on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
The force has now confirmed all 3 men have since been released on police bail while investigations continue.
No injuries were reported.
