A male cyclist has been conveyed to hospital after being hit by a car in Wootton this evening (Wednesday).
Police and paramedics were called to the scene outside The Sloop at Wootton Bridge at around 18:45.
Island Echo understands the female driver of a silver Renault Clio pulled out of Market Square into the path of the cyclist, who was thrown over the bonnet.
He has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment but is thought to have escaped any serious injuries.
No offences have been identified at this stage.
The road remains open with slight delays.

Technically, yes, but the police don’t tend to prosecute unless there is a serious injury.
A similar thing happened to me. In my case the driver became aggressive, tried to blame me and wouldn’t give me his details. The police were called and took statements. They actually asked me if I wanted him prosecuted.
Because of his behaviour my answer was, I believe “Hell, yes!”
He was and got a fine and points.

My wife and I both witnessed one of the lycra louts outside brightsone shop last week end, on the phone to fellow louts, whilst ‘playing with himself ‘ because his ‘panties’ were in a bind.

Life for killing a cyclist is now on the table (since Tuesday) if your driving is deemed dangerous and a lengthy stretch behind bars if it is considered careless.
The same thing happened to me several years ago when I was still commuting to the mainland and cycling there. A car pulled out of a side-road without looking. I, too, hit him and went over the bonnet.

He was prosecuted for driving without due care, got a big fine and 6 points, and I got a new bike off his insurance.

Could have been a bus! When I have had people pulled out in front of me often they never look.
The 4 wheels have always been the king of the road !! It was only a week ago in the same town a young boy was clipped by a bus.. to be honest all drivers and pedestrians need to be more careful, aware of their own surroundings.
Also when someone makes a stupid remark it’s always best to ignore it.. attention only feeds their ego…just saying
