Hovertravel has suspended its cross-Solent service this lunchtime (Thursday) as adverse weather moves in, with both Wightlink and Red Funnel warning of the potential for disruption over the coming days too.
With winds picking up and driving rain sweeping across the Isle of Wight, Hovertravel has suspended its Ryde to Southsea service until at least 14:45, when it is hoped the weather conditions will improve.
But over the next few days, the Isle of Wight is expected to be hit by yet more bad weather – with Hovertravel’s operations likely to be the first to cancel when the gusts begin.
Wightlink says that Storm Eowyn may disrupt services and therefore advises customers to check before they travel. All sailings are currently planned to operate as planned.
Red Funnel also acknowledges forecast winds of around 70mph and the potential for some disruption to both its Vehicle Ferry and Red Jet services.
According to local forecaster IW Met Service, Friday morning and Monday morning are likely to be problematic for those travelling to and from the Isle of Wight.
UPDATE – Services have resumed as of 15:05 from Ryde.
Wouldn’t have these problems if a Tunnel was built.
It could easily be done, Khan had Silvertown Tunnel
built in 4 years.
.87 miles in length
Distance between Colwell Bay and Hurst point is 1.2 miles
So in 5 -6 years a tunnel could be built.
