Stormy weather hitting the Isle of Wight and other parts of the country is causing disruption to cross-Solent travel today (Saturday), with further issues anticipated.
Adverse conditions means Red Funnel has had to cancel the 04:00, 06:00 and 07:30 vehicle ferry sailings from Southampton this morning, as well as the 06:00, 07:30 and 09:00 sailings from East Cowes.
Meanwhile, the operator’s hi-speed Red Jet has been suspended in its entirety.
High winds and choppy seas means disruption is expected to Hovertravel’s services, although the Ryde-Southsea operation is currently under a green status. A suspension of service is expected at somepoint today, which comes after a suspension of service for the majority of Friday due to a technical issue.
Wightlink is advising of potential disruption to its car ferry and Fastcat services but at this time all services are operating to timetable.
Local forecasters IW Met Service say the worst of the wind will hit between 12:00-16:00 today.
UPDATE @ 06:51 – Red Funnel’s vehicle ferry service has now been suspended until further notice.
UPDATE @ 07:31 – Hovertravel’s Ryde-Southsea service has now been suspended due to the weather.
Wightlink has now cancelled a number of sailings on its Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry route, with knock on delays expected throughout the day.
UPDATE @ 10:00 – Wightlink services on both FastCat and the Lymington – Yarmouth vehicle ferry are still running to time.
Those travelling between Fishbourne and Portsmouth may be delayed by as much as 2 hours, Wightlink has said.
UPDATE @ 12:30 – Wightlink has announced that FastCat services have now been suspended.
Hovertravel and Red Funnel/Jet services remain cancelled.
UPDATE @ 15:00 – FastCat services are to resume from 15:15, Wightlink has confirmed.
UPDATE @ 19:45 – Red Jet service has once again been cancelled for the remainder of the day.
