Firefighters are working to contain and extinguish a fire in the open at Alum Bay this evening (Thursday).
A retained appliance from Freshwater is currently on scene, with a second appliance from Newport understood to be on the way.
The fire is located within woodland to the rear of a house overlooking the West Wight beauty spot of The Needles – the most westerly point of the Island.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident at just before 19:55.
UPDATE – Fire crews have now stood down from the incident – which is understood to be a large bonfire.
