A road traffic collision on Middle Road at Calbourne has led to the closure of the road this evening (Saturday).
The incident, which has involved an unknown number of vehicles, has occurred on the S-bends near to Calbourne Mill.
No one is thought to be trapped or seriously injured in the crash, which occurred shortly before 18:00.
The Newport to Freshwater road has been closed at the turning for Newbridge and at Chessell. All traffic is being diverted locally.
UPDATE @ 19:38 – 1 male has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital after sustaining minor injuries. He was assessed at the scene by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, with the decision taken that he required hospital treatment.
The road is expected to re-open shortly.

Why so many ‘negatives’ it’s true. I know this the only comment Phil makes!! But if there weren’t so many bad drivers on the IOW and I’m not saying it’s all residents, could be visitors, we wouldn’t keep seeing this. LOL!!!
I totally agree with you…. There are too many bad drivers on our roads… do not indicate…. always speeding… cutting corners….tailgating… jumping red lights, not looking at the road in front… not caring about other road users… BAD DRIVERS…

Despite there’s been an accident & cars are being diverted ‘locally’. It’s amazing how so many of them Don’t seem to give a damn about SLOWING DOWN!!

I was about to make a similar comment. Had to turn around for that accident. The driving of other motorists forced to divert was shocking. Way too fast for the narrow roads we were using but, hey, I guess wherever they were going was more important than the lives of other road users.
