A collision on the main road between Apse Heath and Lake is causing significant delays in the area this afternoon (Monday).
The incident, involving 3 vehicles, has occurred on the A3056 Newport Road outside Honnor & Jeffrey Garden Centre, near to Sandown Airport.
Island Echo is told the road is blocked in both directions with motorists having to divert locally – via Whiteley Bank.
Emergency services have been alerted and are responding to the scene.
UPDATE @ 13:45 – The road has now been closed in both directions between Morrisons roundabout and Apse Heath roundabout.
Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service remain on scene.
UPDATE @ 15:00 – It has been confirmed that 1 person has been conveyed to hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be serious or life threatening.
The road has now reopened in both directions.
Wait for it, the village idiot Phil McCavity will be along in a minute with his crass contribution of “more bad driving on the Isle of Wight”. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
The only bad driving I’ve seen on the island is those going 25mph over the downs… Honestly, 35mph under the speed limit on a wide straight road with max visibility should be illegal. I understand parts of the downs are best taken at low speeds (tight corners, low visibility). Makes little sense when they’re coming from central Newport to ryde, why don’t they take the Wotton route if they plan on doing 25mph.
-5, wow. Seems we all like going 25mph on 60 roads then. Or maybe just the 70+ read this section. Either way, you’ll cause more accidents than you stop at less than half the speed limit.
Well said, Plato. Are you fed up of his inane comment, too ?
More bad driving on the IW
And more idiots will be along soon….especially those that want us all to drive maximum speed limits all the time..
And idiots like you that want to speed everywhere, speed limits are set for a reason not as a challenge to see how much faster you can go or sit on somebodies bumper cause you dont like the speed limit.
I’m not sure you have understood my comment, I’m referring to the other comments that criticised drivers driving below the maximum speed limits…
Read the comments above and you may understand my comments, I personally would like a maximum limit of 40 for the whole island, also I can assure you I never tailgate.
You need to read the comments correctly. It wasn’t critising those under speed limits. It was those driving less than HALF the speed limit. Even with your insane 40mph everywhere garbage, they’d still be 15 under. This isn’t your island, it’s the UK. And in the UK we don’t slap 40’s everywhere for your peace of mind. Learn to drive and keep yourself out of harm’s way by reading the road and those around you, not by limiting able lawful drivers.
So your happy to see more fatalities contuing to rise….please please get off our roads, we don’t want you, and we certainly don’t need your kind on our roads…
Inappropriate use of speed, can be a cause of fatalities, not “making good progress “,as you would have been taught when you learnt to drive. Some people drive for a living, having to have ongoing annual training, often at their own expense. They then go out on the road and can’t get anywhere, because everyone is dawdling. If you don’t like travelling at the speed limit, or look in your mirrors occasionally and see a whole train of vehicles behind, pull over and let them by,and then carry on at your leisurely pace. That way everyone will be happy!
Totally agree
My apologies i obviously misunderstood your point there.
The only comments about speed on this post are referring to those driving HALF the speed LIMIT. Insane…
Pedant.
