Reports of a drifting and smoking 20ftt speedboat carrying 4 people without lifejackets led to the launchof Cowes RNLI lifeboat last night (Sunday).
Although the boat was apparently somewhere between Cowes and Calshot the lifeboat’s initial search proved fruitless. With passing vessels including a cruise ship alerted to the situation.
Eventually after a drawn-out search, one of Red Funnel’s Red Jets reported seeing the craft near the entrance to Hamble River.
The lifeboat found the speedboat making 3 or 4 knots, with 2 men and 2 women on board; 2 of the people were soaking wet, having previously fallen overboard.
A man and woman were taken up to a slipway on the River Itchen, Southampton.
The Lifeboat then returned to the speedboat and towed it to a boat-trailer in the River Itchen, where it was met by Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team.
Having launched at 20:10 the lifeboat returned to the station at 22:30.

What is wrong with these idiots? Too macho to wear lifejackets? They should be made to pay for the RNLI etc.
What a horrible way to think, let alone post a comment!
Somewhere a village is missing its idiot, jog on son, find your way home.
