Cowes RNLI have dashed to assist a 38ft yacht in difficulty just outside of Cowes Harbour this afternoon (Saturday).
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the Atlantic 85 lifeboat at around 13:25 following a Pan Pan call from the casualty vessel, which reported a loss of rudder and anchor.
It’s understood that having lost the rudder, the crew dropped the yacht’s anchor. However, it was soon found that they could not raise the anchor and it had to be cut free.
The yacht – with 5 persons on board – has been taken to East Cowes Marina thanks to a tow by the volunteers of Cowes Lifeboat.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team have met with the damaged yacht and its crew at the marina.
