Cowes RNLI lifeboat has aided a 32ft yacht aground on a mudbank at the entrance to Beaulieu River this evening (Tuesday).

At around 16:20 the Atlantic 85 lifeboat was tasked to launch by Solent Coastguard to assist a yacht that had found itself aground at dead low water off Lepe, at the entrance to Beaulieu River.

Following a discussion with the yacht’s skipper, the decision was taken for the lifeboat to stand off and await the tide to turn to allow the boat to float off of its own accord.

After an hour of waiting it was decided to tow the yacht off the mudbank and into deeper water. This was successfully completed allowing the yacht to make its own way into Cowes Harbour.
