The Cowes Floating Bridge has successfully resumed operations today (Tuesday) after some 14 weeks out of service.
It was initially planned that the troubled vessel would be out of the water for less than 2 weeks back in July to enable maintenance work to take place. However, significant issues were discovered and Floating Bridge No.6 has been out of action ever since.
Now, after an overhaul of the hydraulic system, the Floating Bridge is back in service between East and West Cowes. Operations restarted at 05:00 this morning.
A tug boat used to push the Floating Bridge into position is still being used, at significant cost.
The town of East Cowes last month said ‘enough is enough’ and called for ‘heads to roll’ over the Floating Bridge fiasco.
The Isle of Wight Council is said to be taking pre-emptive steps towards legal action and are in talks with the designer and builder of the vessel to remedy all the issues caused.

Will it last a week that the big question???
Like a very sick animal – put this poor thing out of its misery
Think we should set up a book to bet on how long before it breaks down again.
What it limps in each time with the help of a Tug !? Whats the POINT
21st October. Floating bridge runs aground, taken out of service. 😀 😉
Anyone know the latest betting odds on how long before floating bridge breaks down?
I think our superb council should be congratulated on enabling the floating bridge to operate .
1000-1 on offer that it will not see the month out.
Floating bridge back in action . . . That’s a nasty rumour to start!
I watched the live feed for a bit!
The amount of juggling it did to get into position to moor at Cowes has put me right off even wanting to go on it for the experience.
Give it till 1st november is my bet and excuse is probably due to river medina is to wet to for no 6 to run
Anybody up for a Sweepstake on when it next fails? All proceeds to go to charity…
People have travelled to the moon and back
It’s broken again, just seen it. One of the ramps is at a very odd angle!
