The chair of the Isle of Wight Council is inviting children across the Island to get creative and send in their best snowmen, reindeer, or festive Christmas trees to feature on this year’s Council Christmas card design.
The card, which goes out to hundreds of Island-based businesses and organisations, will showcase a festive seasonal image that celebrates the best of the Island at wintertime.
Councillor Claire Critchison, Chair, has said:
“I am so excited to see the designs the children and young people will create.
“I would like them to let their imaginations go crazy with Christmas spirit. We have so many amazing Isle of Wight features that could be given a Christmas makeover or design a whole new Island Landmark.”
Need some inspiration? Last year’s winner, 9-year-old Ozzy Cornes of Niton, sent in his design of a festive-looking St Catherine’s Oratory with Santa Claus flying overhead.
Designs can be submitted to [email protected], via post or handed into County Hall, addressed to the chairperson until 31st October 2023.

Whilst a competition for children is a nice idea, the Isle of Wight Council do not need to send out Christmas cards and have no money to do it. The cost of this pointless exercise (production, mailing and disposal of all the instantly-binned cards) could feed many people over the Christmas period. Cut services yet send out Christmas cards? Get your priorities right IOWC.
I would say it is nigh on criminal that a council who have just stated that they are practically bankrupt are going to squander money on sending out christmas cards. Shame on you.
When asked why he said that there would be a shortage of presents this year, father christmas replied “I’ve been having mental elf issues”.
More IE mouth breathers. Dumping on a competition for kids, this time.
which one of these dimwits at the council think it is ok to waste money on crap like this, whilst telling us all how skint they are and that cuts must be made, as well as rises in taxes
the person behind this should be sacked immediately for gross incompetence.
Well it just goes to show what a prick you are if you think that wasting public funds like this is a good idea. Stop stealing our oxygen.
