The chairman of the Isle of Wight Council has thanked Island residents for their ongoing resilience, co-operation, and pulling together to support each other, following the recent significant flooding. The Isle of Wight suffered some of the heaviest rainfall it has ever seen and many rivers and waterways were not able to cope with the extent of the water rushing into them. Homes were flooded, roads closed, water cut off, power outages and many people affected, as reported extensively by Island Echo night and day. As the clean-up continues and the full scale of the damage is still being assessed, Councillor Claire Critchison said she had been heartened by the community spirit shown by residents who stepped up to help those in need in support of the relief effort. She’s said:
“We know this is a very difficult time for residents and businesses who have been affected by flooding after unprecedented rain caused rivers and streams to burst their banks. “While the emergency services, roads management and resilience teams did their best to assist the network and keep the Island running, the task was huge and beyond their capacities. “It is thanks to local people that didn’t hesitate to help and assist in these difficult times that many more people were less affected than could have been. “My sincere thanks to all those that went over and above in awful conditions to help others. Your assistance is very appreciated by many people.”
Councillor Critchison also thanked council staff for their contribution to the community during the recent bad weather.

Sorry where was the council help ? Must have missed that memo .. no traffic control, very little signage, invisible Island Roads, invisible Police inadequate Council drainage maintenance … worst response ever !! Councillor Claire Critchison but slap yourselves on the back that you were not flooded .. fool
These idiots in the council really have no shame do they? While they all sat on their hands doing nothing, the community HAD to help one another. And yet people continually vote these useless wasters back into office.
More and more it’s the community and volunteers that are doing the things we pay our council tax every month for, to be done by people with the proper equipment to do it. As these jobs are not being done, does that suggest they are being paid to do it but no one follows up to see if the jobs been done, or, that someone is not engaging people to do the jobs in the first place as they know the community will eventually get fed up and do it themselves thus saving the money allocated to do the jobs and re direct it elsewhere? Please feel free to correct me if you think I’m wrong or if you have another suggestion please do tell.
Shame the Council done Fcuk all to help!
Utterly useless council, absolutely disgusting. Shame on you
