Ewan and Allan Cook put in strong early-season performances as the Gorrick Brass Monkey XC Endurance Series got underway at Minley Manor in Hampshire on Sunday (30th November).
The mainland course was fast and technical, with twisty woodland sections, slippery roots and plenty of mud following recent rainfall.
Ewan, taking part in his first Senior race since stepping up from Junior level, lined up in the 2-hour 18–34 category. He made an impressive start, settling in with the leaders and clocking consistent lap times that saw him battling for 2nd place.
Although the fierce pace eventually caught up with him, he dug deep to secure a well-deserved 3rd.
Ewan reflected after the race:
“It was so good to be racing in with the big boys but I just didn’t have the endurance on the day. Having said that, I’m really happy to take a podium in my first race as a Senior”.
Allan, racing in the 3-hour 50–60 category, also delivered a determined performance. He fought hard for a top-10 position throughout but was narrowly edged out on the final lap, finishing 11th.
It marked a positive start to the winter endurance season for both riders, who have thanked their team sponsors — Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries, Island Renewables Ltd, Wight Mountain, Rapanui and KReative Studios — for their ongoing support.

Best place for cyclists.
I am fed up seeing day in day out cyclists cycling along
Fairlee Road in the road and not on the cycle path!
Maybe one day they will fine the numpties not using the
cycling lane.
Imagine cars using the cycle lane, cyclists would have the
cheek to moan.
