Bembridge RNLI lifeboat rushed to the aid of a crew member on board a container ship off the coast of the Isle of Wight last night (Friday).
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the All Weather Lifeboat at around 20:50 when reports were received that a crew member on board ‘Safmarine Nomazwe’ had sustained an eye injury.
RNLI volunteers launched the Tamar-class lifeboat and made best speed towards the Hong Kong-flagged vessel, located 10 miles south east of the Nab Tower.
AIS tracking shows the container ship changed course at 20:20 and proceeded towards the Nab, making contact with the lifeboat at around 21:25.
The casualty was transferred onto the lifeboat via the pilot ladder and dashed to Portsmouth Camber, where an ambulance met the lifeboat to convey the male to Queen Alexandra Hospital.
Bembridge Lifeboat was back on station by 23:45.
The container ship is now continuing on its passage to South America.
