HM Coastguard are in attendance at Sandown Esplanade this afternoon (Thursday), where concerns have been raised for the welfare of a woman in distress.
According to witnesses, a woman was seen in a distressed state on the beach before being spoken to by members of SPIIOW – a local suicide prevention organisation.
Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge and Ventnor have donned water rescue gear in readiness for any eventuality. They are also directing beachgoers away from the area.
The individual at the centre of this afternoon’s incident is safely located in a car belonging to SPIIOW.
