Firefighters have tackled an industrial fire at GKN Aerospace in East Cowes overnight.
3 appliances, an aerial ladder platform and the Incident Command Unit were mobilised to Falcon Yard at just before midnight following reports of a fire at the aviation manufacturer.
Crews arrived on scene off Clarence Road to find a compressor alight, resulting in 6 breathing apparatus and 3 hose reels being utilised to contain and extinguish the fire.
Positive pressure ventilation and thermal imaging were used to assist the Newport and East Cowes firefighters.
However, firefighting efforts were slightly hampered by restricted access to fire hydrants in the area.
Drivers are being asked to be aware of fire hydrants when parking and to try and leave them clear so the fire service can access water in an emergency.
Hydrants are painted yellow and usually have a yellow curb stone near by and a yellow H plate on a wall or post.

Ah, you won’t stop drivers leaving their cars/vans to suit their own convenience, not anybody else’s, let alone safety.
